A pharmacist checks every prescription before it leaves the counter, and is often paid only for the drug. That work includes:
- Checking drug interactions
- Verifying dose and duration
- Reviewing drug and disease conflicts
- Counseling patients and answering clinical questions
- Resolving insurance issues
- Monitoring labs and managing therapy changes
- Documenting everything
Value Our Time asks Congress and CMS to pay pharmacists a professional fee for that work, on top of the cost of the medication. It covers patient safety, clinical expertise, mandated counseling, insurance barriers and better health outcomes.
It's time pharmacists get paid for their time too.
